An established port operator is seeking a HSE Manager to be responsible for the development and implementation of health and safety policies, programmes and processes as part a large port expansion project. In this job, you will report directly to the General Manager.

About the HSE Manager Role:
In this role, you will be accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining company, local or international authorities' safety and health programmes to ensure adherence to all laws, regulations and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

- Ensure on-site and off-site construction activities are compliant with corporate environment-health-safety policies
- Develop and drive the implementation of related HSE management systems (ISO14001, OHSAS 18001 and plant security programmes)
- Ensure all risks at workplace are assessed and adequate control measures are put in place
- Perform annual compliance audits of the port HSE programmes and process
- Provide functional leadership to the management team to ensure that HSSE goals, objectives and initiatives are integrated into annual business plans
- Assist in the accident and incident investigation process and reporting
- Direct the medical programme and maintain all necessary documentation to establish safety and health programme implementation, workplace safety and health evaluations and control actions, safety equipment inspection programmes, injury and illness logs and summaries, incident investigations and corrective actions and employee training programmes
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organisations
- Lead the work sessions on machine safety risk assessment, isolation of hazardous energy, ladders-steps-stairs, etc., and ensure all departments update their risks on HIRADC setting actions to mitigate/eliminate them
- Coach on-the-job for machine safety risk assessment, job safety assessment, behaviour observation systems and industry safety basic elements
- Obtain all necessary permits, licenses and government authorisations To succeed in this role, you must have prior health and safety management experience in construction projects, ideally within the port industry.

Key Requirements:

- Tertiary education in engineering, occupational health and safety, environmental or relevant discipline
- Valid Safety and Health Greenbook Certificate
- 10 years of health and safety management experience
- Prior experience within the port environment is highly desirable
- Prior safety system and SOP set-up experience is ideal
- Knowledge of safety laws, regulations, codes and best management practices
- Open to direction and collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and procurement skills
- Ability to multitask, a team player, good leader and motivator
- Displays an innovative approach to work
- Good in project management
- Clear and concise writing skills With some exciting major development to take place in this port, it will soon be one of the largest and busiest ports throughout the entire region, acting as a pivotal midpoint between the East and West.
