Role The responsibilities of this role include: • Developing software in php, JavaScript and browser based frameworks (primarily React). • Liaising with Product Managers/Product Owners on the required functionality and features for the products/applications being developed and assisting with the grooming and sizing of the backlog. • Implementing automated test harnesses and the creation of CI/CD pipelines. • Providing a satisfactory standard of program documentation and user documentation. • Adopting agile ways of working in their approach to development and encouraging others as well. Playing an active role in agile ceremonies or equivalent. • Maintaining the integrity and quality of the application code base through: code reviews, use of coding standards, version control, issue tracking, documentation, and testing (Manual and Automated) • Responding in a timely manner to elevated (Level 3) user-support requests and incidents relating to the software for which they are responsible. Taking ownership of incidents passed to them where solutions may involve liaising with others. • Promoting and supporting development best practice – both within the team and in the wider Arup developer community. Participating in application architecture reviews. • Keeping up to date with current methods and seek new methods in the industry. Keeping knowledge current through hands-on experimentation with new technologies; technical reading; seminar, meet-ups, workshop conference attendance and interaction with subject matter experts Requirements and skills Essential Skills and Knowledge • 6+ years development experience with demonstrable proficiency in php and javascript • Development experience using the React JS framework • Ability to design and compose testable code through the use of good design patterns • Experience with Cloud Hosting and Deployment (e.g. AWS, Azure or Google), PaaS and SaaS • Experience with web application (e.g. MVC, REST APIs) and server architectures (e.g. Apache, Nginx, IIS). • Database development experience using SQL (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres) and/or NoSQL (e.g. HBase, Redis, MongoDB) data stores • Experience with dev-ops principals and techniques and their application to software development, source code control, CI/CD tools and automation • Capable of solving complex technical and software development problems and conveying this information to others. • Strong team working skills. An ability to build trusted relationships with different people and groups. • Experience with API design and development skills including RESTful APIs Desirable skills and knowledge: • Experience working in an Architecture, Engineering or Construction firm or with one of the AEC technical software vendors would be useful • Experience with cloud native development (in AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) • Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl, BASH, PowerShell, PHP) • Recognised IT industry accreditation (e.g. certification in a particular technology, chartership with a relevant institution). • Ability to create and prototype simple UI designs. Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering, Science or Numerate discipline, with demonstrated significant experience in software engineering and the delivery of highly technical, specialist applications
