This role requires a deep knowledge of good development practices, a range of client/server development targets and experience with Cloud providers and services they provide that support software and application development. Although the role draws heavily upon commodity development toolchains, there will be an occasional need to come to terms with specific development tools, frameworks and skill sets to meet project requirements. You’ll join a growing and collaborative development team with a range of skills and experiences, based mainly in the Asia Pacific region. The role reports to the head of Product and Application Development, who is based in Brisbane. You should apply if: You have deep knowledge of modern development practices, with a range of client/server development targets and experience with cloud providers You enjoy learning new things, sharing your knowledge and collaborating with colleagues You are comfortable working in a distributed, multinational, multicultural team on global projects The responsibilities of this role include: Developing software in php, JavaScript and browser-based frameworks (primarily React) Liaising with Product Managers/Product Owners on the required functionality and features for the products/applications being developed and assisting with the grooming and sizing of the backlog Implementing automated test harnesses and the creation of CI/CD pipelines Playing an active part in our agile team: helping to build an inclusive environment, sharing your knowledge and promoting development best practices with colleagues within in the team and the wider Arup developer community Maintaining the integrity and quality of the application code base through code reviews, use of coding standards, version control, issue tracking, documentation, and testing (Manual and Automated) Responding in a timely manner to elevated (Level 3) user-support requests and incidents and taking ownership of incidents Promoting and supporting development best practice – both within the team and in the wider Arup developer community. Participating in application architecture reviews Keeping up to date with the software industry trends through hands-on experimentation with new technologies, blogging and attending workshops Requirements and skills Essential Skills and Knowledge Solid development experience with demonstrable proficiency in PHP and JavaScript Development experience using the React JS framework Ability to design and compose testable code using good design patterns Experience with Cloud services (e.g. AWS, Azure or Google), PaaS and SaaS Experience with web application (e.g. MVC, REST APIs) Database development experience using SQL (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres) and/or NoSQL (e.g. HBase, Redis, MongoDB) data stores Experience with DevOps principles and techniques, source code control, CI/CD tools and automation Capable of solving complex technical and software development problems and conveying this information to others Strong team working skills. An ability to build trusted relationships with different people and groups Desirable skills and knowledge: Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl, BASH, PowerShell, PHP) Recognised IT industry accreditation (e.g. certification in a particular technology, chartership with a relevant institution) Ability to create and prototype simple UI designs. Experience working with UX and UI designers.
